I'm Gonna Need A Support Group

Yesterday, my doctor told me I had to give up all caffeine... No COFFEE!! No DIET DR. PEPPER!! I can't bring myself to believe that he meant chocolate, so I'm excluding that one.

I know, I know, they make decaf of these things now, but you and I both know it's not the same... How will I ever wake up in the morning?! What was he thinking?!

Okay, okay, I'm calming down now... I just wanted to ask you to pray for my roommate...And my co-workers...And anyone who has to have contact with me over the next week or two as I detox. There may be some concern for their physical safety...

And if anyone has survival stories out there, feel free to share them. It would be good to believe that one can survive without caffeine. I'm sure your stories are fairy tales, but nonetheless...

Caffeine-less, but with many other things for which to praise God (I just won't be able to think of them until 3:00 PM...),

As a fellow caffeine addict, I am lifting you up in prayer...I know you are going to need it :) I am supposed to limit mine...but have not listened...maybe you can inspire me :)

Repeat after me and fill in the blanks, "Hi, my name is____ and I am a caffeine addict. I have been clean now _____ (hours/days/weeks)." :-)
I have done it before (limited time) but it was hard. The first week is the hardest but it does get easier. Hang in there, sis. LU. JW3

Noisy auntie wants to know why the doctor said no more caffeine. Its none of my business, but are you suffering bladder infections? Cranberry tablets work good for that. Are you having kidney problems? Does this doctor also abstain from caffeine? Just curious.

I used to be caffeine free, but now I need it to counter act the meds I take that make me sleepy. Without that med I would HAVE to be caff. free or I would not be able to sleep. That said, once you are off it, it is no big deal. It is the detox that stinks!

My husband had these same instructions after a trip to the ER in December with heart palpitations. It turned out that caffeine had nothing to do with it--a prescription medication he was taking for reflux was affecting his heart. However, before that was discovered, he began to make changes--decaf every morning, decaf pop, other drinks without caffeine instead of his beloved Dr. Pepper, etc. He's maintained a reduced level of caffeine and suspended the reflux medication, and everything's fine now! (He had to have a stress test and all that too, and everything looked fine.) It was hard for him, because he lives on mochas in the morning (every day--we have an espresso machine) and Dr. Pepper and Pepsi the rest of the day.

My mom reminded me this morning of a man I knew growing up - you have to know him to fully appreciate and smile endearingly at this (J - it was Johnny Nelson's dad).

He had to give up caffeine. He said decaf coffee was not coffee so he started drinking hot water. Really. Started every morning with a cup of hot water. Said it was the same thing...

(My personal take is that the TRUE coffee people are the ones who can do decaf because they really like the actual coffee. But that's like the BBQ disputes and will really never be resolved until Heaven - when we discover tomato-based really is the correct kind and caffeine won't affect us :) )

Just for the record, I know I can live without caffeine. I have done so for years at a stretch ('cause I already knew that my body didn't really like it--silly body). I just don't *want* to... LOL! But I will, and I'll be fine.

I have drunk 80% decaf-20% regular for the past two days, and I only have had minor headaches. I will probably keep drinking decaf in the mornings, simply for the ritual; it is just part of my day... And I definitely WON'T be drinking hot water...Bleh! :-)

I have a guess why you are to stop consumming caffeine. My mom had to go a year without it. She never liked pop, but drank tons of tea and coffee. Water was alway her favorite though. I do recall that she could not have chocolate at all either.

I am signing it with out my name. I have replied to most of your blogs lately and they are lost when I sign in.

Ok, I guess I am. So I could have used my name for my comment about my mom.
