Outside of small children, I think I am one of the the messiest eaters I know.
I don't buy expensive clothes, as I know that I will eventually mar them with some stain that I cannot remove. White shirts, khaki pants...those are just begging for a coffee spill, or tomato splotch. Or worse, mustard.
And I simply CANNOT eat popcorn without making a fool of myself. There is popcorn all around me when I finish. I think this is because I am never paying attention when I eat popcorn. Popcorn is eaten while reading or watching a movie or working on a project at work. The problem here is...I eat a mini bag of popcorn almost every day.
Now, outside of popcorn, the food spills would appear normal to outside observers...little things here and there--normal stuff that just happens. However, these things happen constantly, and that--among many other things--makes me abnormal...though I'm sure you would have already used this word to describe to me.
I do know, however, that I am not THE messiest adult eater I have ever known. At one point in college I was going to school with a SIXTY-year-old man who we needed to vacuum around when he was finished eating. I am not exaggerating. Seriously. The table, the chairs, and especially the floor were covered with his crumbs...which would fly out of his mouth while he was talking and chewing simultaneously.
It was very appetizing.
So, just for the record: I am not THAT messy of an eater.
Unless popcorn is involved. And then, well... Does anybody have a Dustbuster?
Snacking away,
-J

A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without Him, who can eat or find enjoyment? --Ecclesiastes 2:24-25, NIV

Things That Make You Go "Hmmmm..."
Has anyone read Terri Blackstock's Restoration Series (Last Light, Night Light, True Light, and the most recent one (which I haven't read), Dawn's Light)? I love fiction, but don't often read it these days. However, over that past year I read this series. Then, last week, a friend directed me to this link:

So...anybody know how to dig a well...in my backyard?

Adjectives...
I have many thoughts swirling in my head, percolating for sharing purposes. But until that pot is fully brewed, I thought I would share this with you:
I was just on another site, where someone was referencing a movie I haven't seen (so I won't name or recommend it). From it, they pulled a scene where each person at a dinner party was to list five adjectives (or nouns, in a pinch) that described themselves. This sounded, to my random self, entertaining. So I made my list.
But before I share it with you, I want you to know that I consider this a tit-for-tat arrangement. I'll share mine with you if you'll share yours with me. If you read my list without leaving yours in the comment section, you will discover a charge for $29.95 on your credit card statement at the end of the month for 'entertainment expenses.' Or not. Oh, just compose your list and share already, even if you post it anonymously. It's just fun!
Now, I haven't prayed over this or put lots of mental energy into it. I haven't consulted friends or a thesaurus, though I did reference a dictionary (you'll know for which one, promise!). That said, I am...
...forgiven
...loved
...conservative
...metamorphosing
...seeking
What say you?
Entertained by the simplest things,
-J
P.S. If you need it, www.dictionary.com is a handy tool... *wink*
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. --2 Corinthians 5:16-19a

Gloomy Weather And Other Sundry Items
Remember that glorious afternoon a few days ago?

Well, today isn't quite so lovely. While I'm sure we need the rain, it is gloomy weather. (This picture was taken at the exact same time of day as the first one. Can you see the rain?)

However, the soup I'm going to make this weekend and the hot chocolate I'm going to consume will make it better, I'm bettin'!
I'm also planning to search for warm-weather gear: coats, sweaters, sweatshirts. All of these items have been out-shrunk(?!), which is wonderful, but... When you've lost a significant amount of weight, one thing that tends to happen is that your body gets colder, faster. (Remember science class? Fat is an insulator...) Anyway, I'm freezing constantly now, though our temperatures are still averaging 65 during the day. And it turns out, I don't like being cold constantly. We'll see what the Goodwill can do for me. :-)
Oh, a special little joy in my life right now (warning: I do have on my sarcastic hat...) is the second round of conjunctivitis I've got going on in both eyes for the second time in two weeks. So.much.fun. Really. You should try it.
Or not. ;-)
Well, the weekend is upon me. I think I head out of here. Hope your weather and other sundry items as less gloomy than here in the South. Don't worry about me; by tomorrow afternoon, it'll be a glorious, sunny, 70-degree day here! Jealous? ;-)
Just callin' 'em as they are,
-J
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about...what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? ...your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. --Matthew 6:25, 32b-33

It's Getting Late, and I'm Clearly Getting Tiiirreeedded...
Since I missed work on Monday due to having conjunctivitis in both eyes (Ick!!)...
And since I missed work on Tuesday afternoon due to my BF's B-day (Yea!!)...
And since I missed work this morning due to reclaiming my car from the body shop (Ugh!)...
And since tomorrow is a major event here at work (Mmm...)...
And since tomorrow is a major event here at work (Mmm...)...
I am here late. And will be here later still, probably. So...I thought I'd just share 'me' right now with you:

Are you sensing how I'm feeling?
Looking forward to going home,

Ten Things For...Thursday?
We had internet connectivity issues on Tuesday, so I missed my regular blog entry. So I thought I would recycle the idea for today! :-)
Ten Random Facts About Me:
1. I love Roman numerals.
2. I always eat breakfast in my car. Saturdays are an exception, sometimes, depending on when I need to leave the house.
3. I would like to have a skill at which I excelled. (A jack-of-all-trades; a master of none?)
4. I typically need background noise to be able to fully concentrate. (The outcome of growing up in a household of seven, I'm guessing. (-:)
5. I find listening to most radio stations frustrating since they repeat the songs far too often for my taste.
6. Pink is one of my least favorite colors.
7. When I type, I only shift with my left hand. I never learned to use the right-side shift key. Weird, I know. Typing (this was before the universal shift to 'keyboarding.') was a year-long class and I only took the first semester. :-D
8. I often feel in life that there is information that others have that I missed somehow: socially, academically, even spiritually. I have no way to verify this; it's just how I feel.
9. I used to be able to sing, but really lost my voice after about four years of non-use during an intense period in my life. I miss it, and am slowly working to get it back, but I no longer feel comfortable singing in public.
10. Fall is my very favorite season and summer my least favorite. I sleep so well when it's cool, and I just hate sweating for no good reason. ;-)
Well, it's not much, but it's something. Hope your lives are more interesting today than mine apparently is!
Blessings,
-J

Web Quizzes and Their Worth
Okay, this post is just to share in the irony of my blog-friend Sarah. I, too, apparently cannot take these web-quizzes well, as this is what my "What Kind of Shoe Are You?" quiz said:
Okay, here's the irony. I don't go barefoot. Even in my home, I wear slippers. And no one would EVER call me a 'free spirit.' I'm only now learning to be comfortable in my own skin, and I don't like warm weather. And if I worked for myself, I would die of starvation; I need structure and rules in order to thrive.
So there you have it. I'm pretty sure that this quiz stuff isn't for me. (Though the possibility exists that this quiz was made up by someone with no known qualifications who has no idea what s/he was talking about... I'm just sayin'.)

You Are Bare Feet |
You are a true free spirit, and you can't be tied down. Even wearing shoes can be a little too constraining for you at times! You are very comfortable in your own skin. You are one of the most real people around. You don't have anything to hide. Open and accepting, you are willing to discuss or entertain almost any topic. You are a very tolerant person. You are accepting and not judgmental. You should live: Somewhere warm You should work: At your own business, where you can set the rules |

Random Thought Wednesday
Here is a frightening peek into my brain:
- A shower at night always helps me sleep better (HOT in the winter and cool in the summer).
- Those Croc shoes and their knock-offs that have become so popular (at least around here) remind me of the jelly shoe fad of my early years...and I don't mean that in a positive way! :-p
- I switched from regular milk to soymilk years ago. It just agrees better with my system.
- I almost always have (high-fiber!) cereal for breakfast, and I love, but rarely am willing to pay for, fresh blueberries on it. {BTW, I've had blueberries every morning this week! YUM! :-)}
- I am very relieved to remember that God is in control when I consider our current presidential race, any U.S. political scene, or our status in the international realm.
- Sometimes I agonize when I hear of the pain or trouble of others--known or unknown. At times, I have to limit how far I open my heart to news or contemplation, or I would just cry all the time. I have often marveled at God's capacity to engage the pain of billions of people. I can barely handle that to which I must be exposed. He certainly is so far greater than we.
- I haven't been able to go to the gym for weeks now due to some health problems, and I am so missing it! THIS is a God-thing, as I have never liked 'purposeless' exercise before. (By purposeless, I mean, not done in the process of accomplishing something. I loved exercising when it meant hiking through Israel or riding on horseback or helping someone move. But just-because-I-should walking on a treadmill? Ugh!)
- I always open public restroom doors with a papertowel. Do you know how many people don't wash their hands?! Ick!
Okay, it's now Thursday, so I'm just gonna post this puppy as is....
Hope your Wednesday went more smoothly than mine did! :-D
Blessings!
